Who We Are?

A natural calamity, a global pandemic or any other difficult circumstance is not solely a curse. Beneath all the negativity and despair, these are the instances when humanity can truly come together to create an unparalleled instance of solidarity, strength and support for one another and Mother Earth. With this resolution in mind, a group of former schoolmates decided to band together again, this time to reach out to the less fortunate. For friends who had fallen out of touch when the hustle took over in adulthood, just being able to reinstate contact despite their busy schedules was a tall order. Still, their convictions were firm. For Sovan Samajdar, a businessman based in Kharagpur, the definition of a forever friendship is to extend a hand to someone in need; be a friend in need for the people and even stray animals whose lives became miserable during the pandemic. What started as an idea casually tossed into a WhatsApp conversation between friends, eventually culminated into this active NGO by the name of Obolombon (meaning support), as graciously named by Mrs. Sudakshina Chakraborty. Since its inception, Obolombon Social Welfare Association has achieved multiple milestones in reaching out to the downtrodden. This initiative was as much a social outreach program as it was a journey inwards for the team. They felt the immense capacity for compassion and the true joys of giving.Minimalism became a newfound source of bliss as the team made space for the simpler pleasures of life instead of chasing materialistic excesses.Obolombon Social Welfare Association is a sincere attempt to spread the same happiness.
